2017 Line Up

MC Sam Taunton - is one of the most exciting new voices in Australian comedy. Bursting onto the scene in the 2015 Triple J RAW Comedy National Final, he received the judges’ ‘Special Mention’ award and has since gone on to play venues all over the world. Juggling stand up and various media projects including presenting for MTV Australia, his captive storytelling and quickfire punchlines have seen him emerge as one of the most charming hosts and in-demand acts in the country.

2016 saw him handpicked for the prestigious showcase ‘The Comedy Zone’, tour across Australia and Asia as part of Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow, and start paying back the $728 he owes his mum in E-Toll fees.

DeAnne Smith (Canada) -  is an award-winning Canadian-American comedian, writer and columnist. Smith first gained notice as a comedian in 2008 touring her debut solo stand-up show to popular and critical acclaim, culminating in her winning the Sydney Comedy Festival’s Time Out Best Newcomer Award and earning a nomination for Best Newcomer in the 2008 Canadian Comedy Awards. Her shows have seen Smith nominated for numerous awards, including the Melbourne Comedy Festival’s prestigious Barry Award in 2011. DeAnne Smith has performed all over the world, including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the Iceland Comedy Festival and Just for Laughs Montreal and Chicago to name a few.
The UK’s Telegraph calls her “Smart. Very funny. Effortless charm lets her get away with murder.” NB: She’s never actually murdered anyone.

Daniel Fernandez (India) -  is one of India’s leading English Stand-Up comedians. He is a regular at comedy venues across the country and has performed internationally at comedy festivals in the Netherlands, Singapore, Malaysia & Australia. He headlined Comedy Zone Asia at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2016 where he also performed his solo show Daniel Fernandes – Unoffended. His TV credits include ABCTV’s ‘Comedy Up Late’ aired in Australia and Comedy Central Asia’s ‘Stand-Up Asia’.

Daniel’s material is a mix of observational, political and dark humour with a dash of social commentary. His self-titled YouTube channel currently at 8 million views has been a huge hit with fans in India and abroad particularly for his bold material. Some of his most popular videos feature Stand-Up on topics like Student Suicide, Marital Rape, the Charlie Hebdo attacks, Capital Punishment, the Syrian crisis and the US Presidential Elections.

Sharul Channa (Singapore) - Hit of Comedy Zone Asia 2016 at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and on the Roadshow across Australia, Sharul Channa (Singapore) is a stand-up comic with razor sharp wit. With an undeniable stage presence described as ‘balls of steel’ by The Sunday Times her command of language in both English and Hindi is a joy to watch unfold.

Sharul is a TV regular who has performed for shows at the Comedy Lounge in Perth and Sydney in 2013 and at the Georgetown Festival in Penang 2013. She has been part of a popular sold-out all female stand-up comedy show called Superkam for the past 2 years.
